Hooked Horns

on Tuesday, February 3, 2009

I watched a nature show on deer in the Alps. They showed one clip that disturbed me; it was the corpses of two deer. The reason for their death: hooked horns. In their battle for dominance, they rammed into each other and their horns permanently hooked. Unable to free themselves, they starved to death.

The commentator noted that these enemies in life were now "joined for eternity". My thoughts went back to another feud that took place 2,000 years ago:

I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to agree with each other in the Lord. Yes, and I ask you, loyal yokefellow, help these women who have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. (Philippians 4:2-3)

These two women went down in history for their fighting. Centuries of churches have known these women by name due to their disagreements. Fighting makes a lasting impression. Who have you "locked horns" with? Did you know that these fights cause your spirit to starve? You must free yourself from the fight, from the bitterness, from the criticism, from the anger. If not, your name will always be linked to that person. And others will have to learn lessons from the two "starving deer who linked horns".
